Biography
Jason Yoo is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Geography at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ. His research focuses on geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) for advancing water governance and watershed management. His work examines human–environment interactions, particularly how land use, policy interventions, and management practices influence watershed health and water quality. More broadly, his research seeks to improve understanding of social–ecological systems and support more adaptive, collaborative, and equitable approaches to water governance.
Jason has extensive experience applying geospatial methods to real-world environmental and transportation challenges through collaborations with government agencies and research partners. He has worked with the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) to model pedestrian and bicyclist crash exposure using location-based service data, applying GIScience and spatial analysis to better understand transportation safety and exposure patterns. He has also conducted research on COVID-19 visualization through the COVIZ project, examining how cartographic design, animation, and epidemiological information can be integrated to improve the communication and interpretation of public health data. His work bridges geospatial research and practical applications in environmental, transportation, and public health decision-making.
