Dr. Candice Thomas-Maddox is a Professor of Communication Studies at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ whose teaching and research interests focus on instructional communication, family dynamics, and organizational communication. Her areas of expertise include virtual and remote teams, hybrid workplaces, generational differences in the workplace, classroom dynamics, and family communication.

Thomas-Maddox can provide perspective on how communication influences employee relationships, organizational culture, and workplace effectiveness, including the opportunities and challenges associated with communicating across generations and working in virtual and hybrid environments. Her expertise in family communication includes navigating challenging conversations, managing differences and conflict within families, and understanding how communication patterns shape family dynamics. Thomas-Maddox also specializes in teaching and learning in communication, with particular interests in experiential learning, Team-Based Learning (TBL), community-engaged learning, student leadership development, and career preparation. 

She is the co-author of four textbooks: Interpersonal Communication: Building Rewarding Relationships, Family Communication: Relationship Foundations, Communicating in Your Personal, Professional, and Public Lives, and Quantitative Research Methods for Communication: A Hands-on Approach.

Thomas-Maddox earned her Ed.D. from West Virginia University. Her teaching has been recognized with the Eastern Communication Association’s Ecroyd Teaching Award and Teaching Fellows designation, the ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Regional Higher Education Outstanding Tenure-Track Faculty Award, and the OHIO Lancaster Outstanding Professor Award. She has also held numerous leadership positions in national, regional, and state communication associations.
