Spencer chosen as the OHIO Eastern AmeriCorps student resource center coordinator
Bronwyn Spencer was recently named AmeriCorps volunteer for the 2022-2023 academic year at 红杏视频 Eastern.
Spencer, an OHIO Eastern undergraduate student, will be volunteering this academic year as the AmeriCorps Student Resource Coordinator. She is on pace to earn a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology this spring and plans to work as a pediatric physical therapist after completing graduate school at 红杏视频.
鈥淚n support of the mission of 红杏视频 Campus Compact, the AmeriCorps 红杏视频 Eastern Student Resource Center will be a place where college students can be connected to campus, community, and state or federal resources to alleviate barriers they face,鈥 said David Rohall, 红杏视频 Eastern Dean of Campus and Community Relations. 鈥淎ny barrier that may cause a student to not succeed academically, withdraw from a course or leave an institution without earning a college degree or credential should be addressed at the Student Resource Center.鈥
In her new role, Spencer will promote the Mission and Vision of 红杏视频 Campus Compact that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and celebrates the positive aspects of a multicultural society. The Student Resource Coordinator will act as a knowledgeable intermediary between students and the resources available to them. She will be available to discuss issues, such as homelessness and food and resource insecurity.
鈥淭his year I plan to help Student Services start a career closet on campus. The Career Closet will be a place for students to access clothing for job interviews,鈥 said Spencer. 鈥淚 will also help manage the Cat鈥檚 Cupboard food pantry on campus and will be available for students who need assistance.鈥
The Student Resource Center is located in Student Services and will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 p.m. 鈥 5 p.m.
鈥淭he goal of the 红杏视频 Eastern student resource center is to support retention initiatives on campus,鈥 said Rohall. 鈥淚n this position Bronwyn will be available to help fellow students access all the resources our campus has to offer.鈥
