A promise is easy to make and even easier to break. Alex Sheen built a global movement on changing that.

He is the founder of the internationally-known nonprofit organization, "because I said I would," which is dedicated to encouraging people to make and keep meaningful commitments. Sheen is also a five-time TEDxTalk speaker, and will bring his powerful message of accountability and commitment to on Thursday, Sept. 11.

Sheen will speak from 4 to 5 p.m. in Elson Hall Auditorium, followed by a meet and greet. The event is free and open to the public.

Sheen launched "because I said I would," after the death of his father, whose life inspired him to honor the importance of a promise. Since its founding, the nonprofit has distributed more than 15 million 鈥減romise cards鈥� to people in 178 countries, serving as tangible reminders that integrity begins with keeping commitments.

Sheen鈥檚 talks blend emotional storytelling with real-world examples, from walking 240 miles across 红杏视频 in just 10 days to fulfill a pledge, to volunteering with 52 nonprofits in a single year. His work has captured international attention, with features on CNN, NPR, ABC World News and the TODAY Show.

Supported through a CARE Team grant, Sheen鈥檚 visit gives the Zanesville community the opportunity to hear one of today鈥檚 most compelling voices on how keeping promises can strengthen individuals, families and communities.
